network spinoff in one cluster – more primary / secondary discussion

By rob

one spinoff of the first meeting of this network came when maths teachers from various stages (primary and secondary) just got together; apart from the formal program, the relative anonymity of not knowing everyone can allow discussion (and “eavesdropping!”) on what the “other” stages really think. In the whitehills cluster, this lead to a followup meeting, around these provocative questions, mediated with the essential wine and cheese, (minutes here).

Anyway, one outcome was need for more shadowing (as well as sharing of textbooks, discussion of preferred outcomes, re tables etc)   so shadowing is the next thing to get going
(the rest of this is local detail so click the “read” link below if it applies – ie whitehills maths teachers)

Weeroona maths staff would ideally like to use a student free day at Weeroona to do the shadowing and there is PD day that has been mooted for later in the year which they’re hoping to use. Chas, do you think we are limited to this, or would people be interested in having classes covered or using their frees – i got the impression maybe not?   Gary Schroeder has also suggested some term 4 shadowing by year 7 staff in grade 6 classes I’m willing to cover some classes at weeroona in lieu or provide some CRT from I&E – but will need to be guided by what teachers are happy to do  On the primary side, anyone who would like to come into a year 7 class, please let Chas or Rob know, or comment below, and we’ll try to arrange - I would imagine we could organise that ok in the near future.
